James Cavin, PT

Physical Therapist

Jim started his career with my first job at a personal training studio in Las Vegas as a sophomore in high school. Subsequently, he served as a strength coach at Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning outside of Boston, MA, and at the Reikes Center for Human Enhancement in Menlo Park, CA, affording him the opportunity to work with athletes from a wide group of backgrounds and ages, from middle schoolers to professionals in the NBA, NFL and NHL. While an undergraduate at Boston University he was a two-year starter on the Division I wrestling team until a lower back injury ended his collegiate career. In 2002 he earned a Master of Science Degree in Physical Therapy, at which point he shifted his focus to Sports Medicine.

Jim’s specialty is eliminating pain and enhancing movement and athletic performance. Aside from being a licensed Physical Therapist, he’s been certified as a Personal Trainer and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach by the NSCA, a Performance Enhancement Specialist by the National Academy of Sports Medicine. I’ve also been certified in the Functional Movement Screen and as a Pilates Instructor, as a Club Coach through the US Weightlifting Federation, and a Level 1 Coach by USA Track and Field.

In 2013 he took up martial arts and competes in Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. His other hobbies include playing volleyball, enjoying Portland’s dining scene and playing the guitar. Prior to moving to Oregon, he worked as a traveling physical therapist and has lived in Australia, San Diego, Chicago, LA, London, Washington DC, New York, Santa Cruz and Seattle.
