James Sechrist combines advanced orthopedic expertise with a deep appreciation for both strength training and endurance sports. After earning his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from the University of Georgia, he received his Doctor of Physical Therapy from Georgia State University before completing an orthopedic residency through Mercer University. In 2012, he became a Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS), a distinction recognizing advanced clinical expertise in orthopedic physical therapy.
Throughout his career, James has pursued extensive continuing education in pain science, exercise prescription, tendon rehabilitation, post-surgical recovery, running biomechanics, and manual therapy. While these advanced skills help guide treatment, he believes that education and individualized exercise remain the foundation of lasting recovery.
James’ goal is rarely to tell people to stop doing what they love. Instead, he works to identify what they can do, modifying training when necessary while developing a plan that keeps people progressing throughout their recovery. As a certified kettlebell instructor with extensive experience in barbell training, James understands the demands of strength sports and the challenges coaches and trainers face when working with injured clients. He also has a passion for running, having completed multiple marathons and spending much of his free time trail running. He values collaboration with personal trainers, running coaches, and strength coaches, believing the best outcomes occur when rehabilitation and performance training work together rather than in isolation.
Whether helping an athlete prepare for their next race, a recreational lifter get back under the bar, or an older adult maintain independence and mobility, James takes a practical,
evidence-informed approach centered on improving strength, movement, and long-term resilience. He believes that strength and regular physical activity are among the most powerful tools for reducing pain, improving performance, and supporting a long, healthy, and fulfilling life. Outside the clinic, James enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. You’ll often find him trail running, hiking, camping, lifting heavy things, or gathered around a table for a competitive board game
